What to Expect

Our playgroup is a volunteer, parent-run organisation. We promote a play-based environment for children and their parent/caregiver to enjoy. Members are responsible for the organisation of sessions – setting up activities, supervising children, tidying up at the end of sessions. Our sessions have volunteer supervisors who oversee the general running of the session and who can assist with questions.

Families come and go at different times throughout the session so you are welcome to arrive at a time that suits your family.

Arriving

If you are the first person to arrive, here are a few steps to follow:

  • Unlock the facility (email us or ask the supervisor how to access the key).

  • Place the key on the hook to the left of the door.

  • Get the sign in sheet out from the wall pocket by the door.

  • Turn lights on, heat pump/air con on and open windows as necessary.

  • Check for any hazards.

Members are encouraged to choose their own toys and activities for the session - get stuck in! We also offer complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits - help yourselves!

The Importance of Signing In

On your arrival, please always sign in on the register. This is not only a health and safety requirement but our attendance numbers determines the amount of funding we receive from the Ministry of Education. The greater the attendance, the greater the funding and contribution towards maintaining and improving our service.

Leaving

It is everybody's responsibility to tidy up after themselves, this includes cleaning dishes, putting toys away and tidying up after activites.

If you are the last person to leave, here are a few steps to follow:

  • Ensure that the windows are closed, heat pump/air con and lights are turned off.

  • Return the sign in sheet to the wall pocket.

  • Check that the chairs are stacked, toys are put away and the facilities are tidy for the next session.

  • Double check the cubby hole under the stairs. The children love to hide all the toys here.

  • Lock up and return the key.

Health & Safety

Promoting health, well-being and safety is a priority at our playgroup and we need all members to play their part.

  • Supervision: Members are responsible for their own children and it is important they are supervised at all times.

  • Illness: Please keep sick children at home and ensure good hygiene practices like regular handwashing or sneezing into your elbow.

  • Hazards: If you notice a hazard on site, if possible to do safely, the hazard should be eliminated, isolated or minimised and reported to a supervisor to pass on to the Committee to manage.

  • First Aid: If needed there is a first aid kit located in the kitchen.

  • Emergencies: Please ensure you are familiar with our Emergency Management Plan.

"We have met so many incredible young families, found a supportive local community and the kids absolutely love our mornings at playgroup. It's the best activity for rainy days and has great outdoor play options in summer with the sandpit and water play. The kids can get messy and enjoy play that I can’t offer at home, as well as forming friendships and having fun while I can sit down and chat to other mums - win/win!"
